Leonard Publishing are a unique, specialist publisher of books focused on credit and risk that are targeted at the consumer credit industry in the emerging markets of Africa, the Middle East and South Asia.
The client's initial brief was straightforward: create a brand identity that represented a professional, experienced, ethical and trustworthy company that targeted consumers, SME's and credit grantors. It was important to be conscious of their specific target market and keep the design traditional, non-political, non-religious and non-racial. Early design explorations ranged from stylised letters and book icons to pen nibs and crests. Keeping this traditional direction in mind, the final solution consisted of a medieval quill pen - a strong and solid representation of the business and its values. Coupled with a single colour design and a traditional script typeface, the end product was a clean, clever and recognisable design that communicates the class and quality of both the product and service.
